Drug rehab scene

The point in the film where Ray Charles is finally trying to get his drug addiction out of his system was to me the most potent. I'm sure his struggle was all the more harrowing because his addiction had become so pronounced. I'm not sure the dream sequence with his mother and brother was completely necessary, but I give this part of the film high marks for its realism.

The dream sequence was very necessary because he had a difficult time coming to terms about his brothers fatal accident. Shortly afterward it was partial to the reason why he went blind and later he blocked it out with alcohol & drugs. Once he came to terms with it, accepted the fact that it wasn't his fault, it was all part of his rehabilitation, the reason why he never touch heroin again which is the reason why that scene had to be there.

If not then it really wouldn't make any sense.

That last line in your post (not the sig) is completely stupid. To me your answer was abvious, so I agree, don't get me wrong. That line is just saying: "either this or I just completely missed the major plot point of this guys life".

Furthermore I don't think he went blind because of his brothers death, though I can relate if he was thinking that.

As I said I agree with your assessment in having the scene.

I think the reason for his blindness was glaucoma.

Twisty's correct, Ray Charles' blindness was due to glaucoma. It affects people of all ages. There was no treatment or cure at that time.

Yes, as a long term glaucoma sufferer, I can give an assurance that guilt doesn't cause blindness.🐭

There were a lot of dream sequences with his mother and brother. They shed some light on Ray's background.

Kman, people in withdrawal hallucinate. It's common and part of the withdrawal process.
