So, can someone explain...

How this became a movie? It's not like the show was insanely popular like Recess was. Hell, I would have expected a Weekenders movie if anything.

Yeah, I didn't expect this show to have a film either. The show didn't seem to be very popular, I guess the producers were obligated to wrap the show's story up.

Ask the producers.

Stories are different but this show and the show Hey Arnold (who also had a flopped movie before) might have went with the same process as to why they ended up having flopped movies.

The Teacher's Pet movie might have been originally planned as a TV movie or an episode with two parts (like HA), however Disney might have pressured TP's creators to make a full-length film since probably the Disney cartoon movies at the time were successes at the box office. And believing that TP have a huge fan base and an attractive story, they might think it would be a success in the cinemas (like what Nickelodeon did to HA).

So, obviously, at the end, they failed in the gamble and lost big time.

But this is just my theory. However, this could be plausible. According to Hey Arnold's creator, Craig Bartlett, that's the reason why the Hey Arnold movie was made.

Well said, and I agree with this assessment.

If you think about it, Disney commissioned a couple of successful animated TV show properties from the early 2000s like Doug and Recess, and tried to milk their popularity via films (since those maximize profit often). Problem is, I think they overestimated Teacher's Pet popularity. I never thought the show made much of a splash, at least compared to the likes of Recess. A Pepper Ann or Weekenders movie might've been better choices...you know, in contrast to Teacher's Pet.
