did she say that right???

$9000 for an apartment??? I know the cost of living in new york is very high and its one of the most expensive cities in the nation but they said that's reasonable for an apartment in New York? That can't be right? I looked at a 2 br apartment once in that general area just to be curious and it was around $$2000, and from the quick look I got at the picture in the movie, this apartment wasn't much bigger. I'm not a real estate expert, but For it to be over 4 times that much seems a bit extreme, even if its in a nicer "upscale" part of new york.

if anyone lives in that area and reads this post, feel free to let me know if this seems accurate. thanks.

Well I remember the real estate woman saying that the $9000 apartment was a 4 bedroom. I think this was also in Manhattan, I'm not sure which city you were looking in. The apartment looked pretty fancy too, and probably was bigger than the one you looked at. The one she eventually got was a 2 bedroom in Queens for $1200. However I'm not from NY so I have no idea if these prices were reasonable or not. When I watched this on youtube someone was actually commenting that they wished they could find an apartment in NY as nice as the one Helen got for that price.

It was a high end four bedroom apartment in Manhattan, probably in an upscale building, that's not extreme.

Absolutely, $9K is not unusual for NYC. If you are thinking about buying-the average price for an apartment in New York is $2.5 MILLION (20-30% down). It is not uncommon for upper class individuals to pay cash when buying an apartment.

When I lived in Connecticut 14 years ago, I paid $2500/month to rent a four bedroom townhouse. Also, it's quite common to have to pay first and last month's rent, in addition to the security deposit (same amount as one month's rent). I would do it all over again in a heartbeat! Love love love the east coast!
