Why is it that.

Half of these bands are on here!?
I mean COME ON!
The USED, SUM 41, GREEN DAY!?
I don't see how they somehow managed to get these super mainstream pop bands in the same film with the likes of Anti-Nowhere League (the little girls from the Used would wet themselves if they met Animal), UK Subs (They've been around longer than My Chemical Romance's members have been ALIVE!) and GBH's awesome punk anthems should never be comared with the likes of Good Charlotte!
I suppose the only reason for it is to further spread the band's names out into the mainstream but STILL! These bands I have idolized for 15 years and to see them working with these bands makes me ill.

If they're trying to prove punks not dead, they need to look at modern bands.

Of course including bands like The Used, Sum 41 and Green Day they seem to actually prove punk is dead. At least, these bands arn't punk. Call them neo-punk if you will but they're not classic punk. No one can be classic punk anymore. Classic punk belongs in the late 70s. Yey classic punk! The best music genre of them all!

well they want to show the difference between true bands like Misfits or DK and faggety mtv bands like My Gay Romance and Good Charlotte.

Maybe they want to show the difference between bands that the mainstream thinks are punk, and the original punk bands. That's what it seems like when you read their website.

hah, that would be funny. Yeah, I was pretty shocked when I saw them on here too. It kinda kills the title.

i agree with the original poster... this film could use some u.k. subs.

I'm not into bands like Good Charlotte and Sum 41, but I do like some Green Day... I also remember falling in love with The Sex Pistols when they came to the US in '77 and then going on to discover The Ramones and The Buzzcocks and X. I remember when my favorite band of all time- The Clash was ridiculed and hated and called "not punk" anymore cos they too, got on MTV in the 80's. Would you dare say today The Clash isn't "punk"?!

But according to the OP, I must not *really* like "punk" if I enjoy the likes of Green Day. Makes no sense to me. TODAY these bands are classified as "punk", so since the film is about the fact that "Punk's Not Dead", it only makes sense to include these bands.
There are a lot of old school punk I can't bring myself to listen to- I am not a fan of The Germs, for instance. Does that make me less of a fan? Nope. Does it make The Germs not a punk band just because I don't like them? Absolutely not.
Hey, the new stuff isn't your thing- great. You think anyone that has success and sells records *can't* be "punk"? Then I think that is YOUR problem. MTV and a million in sales means people are listening- and isn't that the point?
It ain't dead. Period.

Saw the film - LOVED IT! UK Subs are in it a lot.

I saw this film in Buffalo New York today.
I'll admit I wasn't too big on the fact that they featured Green Day, Sum 41, Good Charlotte, and My Chemical Romance.
Don't worry....they aren't in it that much.
but what this film did was pretty much go through all the stages that punk had gone through..from it's origins, to hardcore, to top 40 pop-punk.
and whether we like it or not it is part of the story.
I think this is a great history of punk film with some incredible footage and interviews.
It is good film for people who were into it from the beginning, and it's a great film to show the kids who are listening to Green Day where the roots of their music actually came from.

You shouldn't avoid this film on account of the pop-punk bands.
This really is the best documentary I have seen on the subject of punk.
I thought AMERICAN HARDCORE was good.
but I think Punk's Not Dead was a better film.
you could tell the director really knew what she was trying to get across. and she captured what I feel is the true definitions of what this punk thing has been all about since the beginning.
and that you will have to see to find out.

I love some of your guys' insults towards these bands. "Scum 41"? "Bad Charlotte"? "My Gay Romance"? Seriously, those are all horrible, 4th grade insults.
