In the movie they put a whole segment on pop punk. They never tell you whether it's punk or not. On the other hand, they ask people, punk rockers, punk fans, etc., what they think. Many old-school punk rockers say that pop punk is not punk, that it's *beep* etc, others say that it's a kind of punk, the Good Charlotte singer tells you what he does and why he does it, etc. They put pop punk in this because many people like it and consider it as punk, not because the producers of this movie think it's punk. And I think it's great, because the whole movie is like this. It never tells you what to think, or what is punk. Most of it is composed of differents points of view by respected members of the punk community.
sharePop Punk is punk. A whiny annoying type of punk I can't stand but it is still an evolution of punk. I recently met this super cute punk chick wearing boots, knee highs, black skirt, creative makeup I love to see, then she revealed she doesn't listen to any old punk, just pop punk. I can say one thing about My Chemical Romance-their first album (released on Eyeball Records)was really good. Everything past that is *beep* though. They went from leather jackets and jeans, singing about vampires and making their own video sets to, well, you *beep* It's kind of sad actually.
