What Peter Pan would be like in the 21st century.

If you get the chance you should see "Neverland" (Make sure you get the right one) it's a retelling of Peter Pan but done in modern times. If you've ever seen "Romeo + Juliet" with DiCaprio and Danes you'll know what I'm talking about. You can rent it from NetFlix if you live in America. The preview can be Googled on YouTube. You can buy it at Amazon.com, etc. etc. etc. I don't think it was ever released in theaters obviously.

Peter Pan has been told and retold so many times it's painful but these guys somehow pulled it off with originality and somehow they convey a point closer to the book then any cartoon ever would, without ever showing any of the bad stuff that they imply about the characters. It's amazing how little was changed yet it managed to be so different... Neverland is a old broken down amusement park like Cony Island where the Peter and the Lost boys live as runaways and Captain Hook and his Pirates are the custodial crew. Peter Pan is "Pansexual". Captain Hook is, um, a "pirate of another sort", the conflict being that Hook is an old bitter queer that hates all the fun Peter is having with the lost boys. The Indians are all cross-dressing stage performers. Wendy, John, and Michael are the multi-ethnic adoptive children of a rich couple who only did so for the social status it brings. Peter's shadow is a cool black car. Tinker-bell is a cracked out fag-hag who dresses like a raver and wears a shirt that says *beep* You". She likes to snort her own fairy dust. I rented it because she does all sorts of voice dubbing for Anime movies. She totally broke my heart in the scene she does where she makes Peter choose between her or Wendy.

I won't ruin the ending - but it's not like Peter Pan the Disney movie (obviously) but more like "What if Peter Pan was actually true and happened in 2003" Good haunting music, interesting sets and camera angles, a little over-long on the blurry digital camera shots, but well worth a look.

I loved this movie myself. I won't try to say it was great acting or great production. i don't care if it was or not, I'm not a film critic, I just have to go on how a movie makes me feel. This one made me feel good, it felt speecial and it's one I will definatly be hunting down to put in my collection.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who liked it, I was beginning to wonder after reading a lot of these comments. Ah well, I've been in the minority most of my life.
