What happened to 'Take it to you *beep* grave' speech?

One of the best scenes was Herb Brooks giving a pregame speech before the Gold Medal game against Finland. As Brooks/Russell is walking out of the locker room, he turns and says something to the effect: "if you don't win, you will take this to your frickin' grave. He turns and takes a couple of more steps before turning back to the team and repeats the last phrase. It is very dramatic. I bought the DVD and that scene is absent. I have watched the movie on cable and that scene is missing. Anybody know what happened to the scene?
Thanks!

Since it's a PG-rated, Disney movie they had to keep things as "family friendly" as possible.

Are you sure you saw it in Miracle? The HBO retrospective Do You Believe in Miracles? recounts it (I do believe Eruzione tells the story), and it could very easily become one of those things where you think it was in one work because of the other.

I personally don't recall ever seeing that in the movie, theater or home. And with how the movie is structured, with obvious emphasis on the game vs. the USSR, doing more than the voiceover the clips of the gold medal game and medal ceremony would have completely threw the pace off. It would rival Return of the King for not knowing when to stop.

Heck, a lot of people have to be reminded that beating Russia didn't win them the gold. Not only was it built up to be the end-all be-all in the movie, it was also that way back in 80. I think its very possible that if USA had come up short against Finland and went home with the bronze (or nothing, I can't remember exactly how it would have shaken out) people would still memorialize beating the Soviets. Hell, they celebrated that win like it was the gold, after all.

Someone should go teach them how to change the channel.

It isn't. The Finland game is an afterthought in the movie. Which I always thought interesting because, had they lost to Finland, they would have not won any medal, finishing the medal round at a record of 1-1-1 (the tie against Sweden carried into the record from the opening round).

Of course, given you had ten minutes of game left after Eruzione scored the winning goal against the Soviets, it's tough enough to build the crescendo in this movie already.

1. Disney. Can't say the F-word in a Disney movie.

2. They built up the game with the USSR as the ultimate climax of the movie.

3. The "F$#$king Graves" speech came in the Finland game, between the second and third periods, when the US trailed and the whole thing could have gone down the drain.

4. IMO they should have put the speech in anyway -- released a 'Family Version' where he would say, "Freakin' Graves," and a "unrated" version in which he delivered the real line.

You're probably remembering the HBO documentary on the 1980 hockey team where they discussed this and Eruzione is the one that tells the story about the Finland speech.

I appreciate everyone's response. But, my wife and I both saw the "take it to your "f-ing grave" scene in the Kurt Russell movie. We did see the movie upon its initial theatrical release. It has been a line we have repeated to each other many times since 2004. The entire scene is still quite vivid to us.

We aren't mistaking it for the documentary or anything else. Kurt Russell said it in a locker room speech to the team before the Gold Medal game against Finland.

I assume that it was cut when the movie came out on DVD.

You have to be mistaken because I remember seeing Miracle in theatres and there was no such scene. The Finland game was pretty much skimmed over. I even Googled it and a bunch of people have mentioned how it was never included in the movie. Plus, like other people have said, it's a Disney movie. They would never allow something like that. Maybe you're thinking of Miracle on Ice (1981) with Karl Malden?

OP is not hallucinating. I also remember that scene when I saw 'Miracle' in the theatre and am annoyed that they've cut it to be Disney-friendly.

I seriously doubt that they scene was even filmed, Walt Disney Pictures are known for being Disney clean or almost when it comes to films, Some movies there might be some swearing in it, but it is not bad so it would be mild at best. So you must be having a good imagination. And I don't think Disney would ever have an actor or an actress use the F word in the movie, once or twice to be sure it gets at least a PG-13 rating. And the only Disney movies that I know of that has a PG-13 rating are the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and The Lone Ranger with all the movies having Johnny Depp in them. There are a couple of swear words in this movie, for example the whole uniform speech that Herb Brooks gives, where the name of the front of the jersey, is a hell more important then the one on the back. If it was filmed I am pretty sure it would have been edited out of the movie.

I think thats what Coach Murray Chadwick said to the Hamilton Mustangs in their final game against the Thunder Bay Bombers between the 2nd and 3rd periods.

The gold medal wasn't the point of the movie. That wasn't the miracle. That was the gravy on the meatloaf, nothing more. Besides, after the pre-game pep talk that gets me choked up every time I hear it, there really didn't need for anything else to be said for motivation at that point.
