Blond Woman

Who is the blond woman whom John encounters in his garden, and who waves to him during the banquet? Probably I was supposed to have figured it out, but I didn't.

I agree- it was very confusing and rather fouled up the drama, leading to expectations in the viewer, especially when she was discovered lying on the ground, unattended, presumably in the throes of grief having heard bad news from the front.( a bit too much like the prince being found in a fit?) I wonder if somewhere there is a bit of archive material that reports on a visitor seeing the little prince and talking to him. I believe that Poliakoff did a lot of research into contempoaray writings.

The author provided a brief explanation during a vox pop interview that is on the BBC's website:

From the interview:

From: Richard Pitman
Question: Who was the mysterious woman Johnnie kept meeting?

Answer: She is an aristocratic lady attending the Garden party at Sandringham. We meet her for the first time when she is full of confidence, expressing the serene self-assurance of the Edwardian upper class. She has no idea about the grief and destruction that is about to touch the whole of Europe irrespective of people’s background and wealth. When we see her again in Part Two she is desperate for news about a loved one. She is a solitary image of the terrible anguish that nearly all families went through during the First World War.

Thank you for the link, robertson.
