reactions

Saw TLP again two nights ago.It bothered me that Lalla's reaction was obvious grief(tears)She must've loved him very much, but HIS OWN MOTHER didn't have so much as a tear or sniffle.
I know that in real life she was very affectionate towards Johnnie, but did how this was protrayed in the film bother anyone else?

She never saw him as much as Lalla did so of course Lalla would be crying and the mom wouldn't. She didn't even see him! exageratting of course

Just watched the movie again tonight for the third time. I thought his mom did show concern and emotion. The recital was a very telling scene bout family pressure and the office they held. The same stress and problems exist with celebrities. But more so with Royalty who are surrounded by servlets and members of the royal court. Appearances prevented to a large extent the family being a family. I thought the scenes with Johnny's grandfather and the Romanov was telling as it was the only time when the Royal Family could be themselves.

His mother, the QUEEN, was very reserved as Queens have to be (remember the sufragette threat?). Not only that, she rarely if ever saw him -- he was more of a strange exotic pet dragged out at Christmastime than he was a son to her.

To Lalla he was her son, so it's only natural that she weep for him. Her scenes were heartbreaking.
