What was the point of having the King playing with his stamp collection and talking about how much the stamps were worth when he had all that great art all over the place. It made him look like a duffus.

The point the filmmakers were trying to make, and which actually was historically correct, was that the king was rather obsessed with his stamp collection - he pasted together over 300 volumes throughout his life. He was not cultured or an intellectual like Queen Mary and he did not care about palaces, art, furniture, etc. He was raised as a sailor and had very simple tastes which indeed made him very ordinary.

FDR was also obsessed with his stamp collection.

Stamp collecting was the King's hobby and it was quite important to him. He was a fairly simple man, as he himself knew.

It was rather annoying, couldn't he see that Johnny wasn't interested, he should have put more attention to his son instead when he finally decided to meet him.
