Spoiler-----Car keys

Anybody else find it odd she whips out her keys to open her house just hours after she was supposedly carjacked..I mean Samuel Jackson never even questions this and it was a huge glaring moment in my mind.....

DREADFUL.......Just plain dreadful movie...Theatre was cracking up with laughter in the most "dramatic" parts...

reply

Yeah and what the hell happened to her car anyways. They never found it so I am confused on where the car ended up? Did send it off a cliff?

I can't describe the vibe I get

And did anyone else notice the "Support our Troops" yellow ribbon magnet on the back of Edie Falco's character's truck? Since the movie is supposed to take place in 1999, I rhetorically wondered if this was a goof or an attempt by the film maker to make a small statement about the war in Iraq. I also noticed Sam Jackson's character using an 800mhz radio, something not around in 1999.

Coming soon: "Radio Man" - At least it's original

It says 1999 in the beginning.

Why it had to take place in 1999 is beyond me.

The book was published in 1998 and took place in 1998. The book was 700 pages long, which doesn't always translate into an eay adaptation for a two hour movie. Richard Price wrote both the book and the film script. Brenda's car was in Billy's mother's garage. Lorenzo knew from the start Brenda was full of it, but he was trying to coax it out of her beofre she lawyered up.

reply

YEAH I SAW THAT TOO!!!

Where'd it say the movie took place in 1999, though?

reply

Yes, I noticed that too.

Read a book. The yellow ribbon symbolizes the hopeful return of a loved one, not just those in the military. Edie Falco played the mother of a missing kid. See the connection there?

reply

per the book.
The car ends up in the garage of Billy Williams mom's house.

i got another question even though there was no "carjacking" and she still had keys, where was the car? she never did say where her car was or did she even have a car? i think i'm more annoyed now then when i watched the movie

reply

another anachronism: one of the teens in the project was wearing a g-unit sweatshirt. I am not exactly a rap expert, but I don't think g-unit was around in '99

reply

i kinda thought it was weird that sam opened her locked door on the first try. no key hunting at all.

The whole movie was dumb and unbelievable- where is the community leaderhip? Why are the refrigators outside? Laptops for a housing project in 1999? Why is one black cop alone with a white woman all through the movie. What was th epoint of the brother hearing it was eddie? For that matter what was the point of this movie?

Who is Eddie? I don't remember hearing about an Eddie...and I don't see an Eddie on the cast listing.

And what about the Missing poster for the child on the night he disappeared. Samuel L. Jackson picks it up, but the child had only been missing a couple of hours. Just awful!!

Youd be surprised at how quickly things are made when it comes to missing children. I was in some store and they had announcements all over the place for this kid that had gone missing like an hour before. I think one of his parents had kidnapped him.

I live in Binghamton NY, a relatively small city of maybe 44,000 and I can recall at least three times where I saw posters about a child that had been missing just a few hours, including one in the early 1980s where a papergirl disappeared delivering newspapers on her evening route and it was easily less than two hours elapsed. (that one turned out sad, she was raped and murdered. There were no witnesses to her disappearing, but they knew something was wrong).

Lorenzo was suspicious of Brenda from the very beginning. Even in the hospital, he kept giving her chances to come clean. The keys were just one more thing to prove Brenda was lying. She was so fragile, he didn't want to push her and maybe never find out what really happened. That's why he didn't react.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

reply

It was because she was in the projects known for drugs, at 9pm with her child. He assumed she was a junkie looking for drugs. I thought he was being a bit forceful at the hospital. It wasnt until she said her brother was in the force that he eased up a bit.

But i didnt notice the keys in her door after she was "car jacked". That should had been the 1st give away. I have my house keys on a different key chain than my car keys though, but thats bc my car is keyless.
