I'll probably never get an answer but...(possible spoilers)

I watched the movie yesterday, and got the impression that Cody actually committed suicide. Because of the OD, and when he yelled to his mom "you'll be sorry". I have not seen a discussion about this on here. Does anyone else think that the 4 year old child actually committed suicide???

bear in mind that nothing the mom said is necessarily true.

how does a 4 year old kid know to commit suicide? i have a bright 5 year old kid who barely understands what a dream is. i question whether a four year old kid could comprehend death, guilt, suicide, revenge, etc. it seems unlikely that he would intentionally drink medicine (which in theory he thinks is good for him) in an attempt to end his life (which his mind has no understanding of) in order to punish his mom with a lifetime of guilt (which would also be beyond his comprehension). if kids could kill themselves intentionally and understood the consequences of life and death, they'd be tried as adults in other crimes as well, like stealing, murder, etc. but that's not our current understanding of child psychology.

A child that age would tend do say the things said by the adults in the child's life. The child would also notice the reactions that saying certain things gets. If a child wants something he or she will say things likely to get the desired result. A child, teenager, or even a young adult, may not understand just what certain words mean but they understand the results.

He's only 4!
He wouldn't even understand the concept of taking too much medicine could hurt him, let alone the concept of suicide.
Not to mention Brenda told him it was vitamins.

I was wondering why they didn't make him older. At 4 it just doesn't seem like a logic thing to happen, maybe at 8 or 9,still to young to be left alone but yet old enough perhaps to understand some of what that stuff means. I have a 7 year old now who says stuff when she's upset with us like "you hate me and don't love me, do you want me to die then" but she honestly has no concept of what death is and what happens when someone dies. It's just words to her that she must have picked up somewhere.

My brother was a troubled child with an IQ of around 78 and at four years old he climbed up on the counter and got my mother's perm solution out of the medicine cabinet, drank it, then went in my parents bedroom on that early Saturday morning and woke her up by saying, "Mommy, I drank poison and I'm gonna' die," with a smile on his face.
