African American films seem to be dumb

Yes, that is a sweeping generalization (there are exceptions), BUT I've noticed that a majority of African American films, be it comedy or action, really "dumb it down" (Soul Plane, ANY DMX film).
I think if there was better quality out there people would go see it.

It seems like a sad commentary on film and life. You can't have black films where they are not barbers or thugs. Same goes for Hispanic films where we are portrayed as gang members or mom's who clean houses for white people. And whites are portrayed as stuck up, middle class snobs who need lessons on how to dance by young blacks and hispanics!

It's getting very tiresome and run down. I'd love to see a film where all races come together and not blame each other for the downfall of western civilization. Because believe it or not, I get along fine with all my white friends, who know blacks, and we live in California!

Really? Same here.
It does seem that there is less of a "Race" stigma here (L.A.), but is such a BIG country that nothing really seems to change.

Truthfully, NickArts323, it's becoming a big Whine Festival. Even though I'm Spanish/Mexican-American, I generally despise films that have a Hispanic theme(ie, Mi Familia, Price Glory, tv's American Family, Stand and Deliver was okay). Because they show stereotypical representation of Hispanics. It's always in some negative light with someone boxing(a stereotype I hate).

I'd like to see something that portrays EVERYONE in a positive manner. And as you can tell by my signature at the bottom, I'm a huge hockey fan. Scott Gomez, #23, of the New Jersey Devils, Calder Cup winner in 2000, two time Stanley Cup winner in 2000 and 2003, is Colombian/Mexican-Alaskan-American!

I didn't mean to whine, NickArts, but thanks for listening!

"Scott(Stevens), you and I have done this before. Come get the Cup!"

Torquemama, you said, "I'd love to see a film where all races come together and not blame each other for the downfall of western civilization."

Then go watch this movie. It is not an "AA" movie, it is simply a romantic comedy with a diverse cast...period.

I also agree. It reminds me of an Anthony Anderson line in Malibu's Most Wanted. It's something along the lines of: "Why do we always have to play thugs? Why can't we play nice young men who use proper language?"

All work and no play make Jack a dull boy.
"Mr. Grady, you ARE the caretaker!"

Studios make films that appeal to a certain market. Apparantly Hollywood believes that young Black people prefer films about gang banging and stuff about the "hood" and so-called "ghetto fabulous" comedies that are neither fabulous or funny. What's really unfortunate is that so many young African American people confirm that ideal by going to see these films in droves. I'm personally tired of these kind of tacky movies, but until we either make our own films or demand some change, we're going to be stuck in that rut forever. I know for many Black people the hood is a reality, but it's not THE reality.
