Is there a proper ending? Should I start it?

I know the show got cancelled after 3 seasons. I don't want to start the show and feel like the season 3 sets a lot for the future instead of wrapping things up. Is there any sense of closure, do questions get answered and storylines progress?

Same question here. I've watched some of the episodes, and now want to continue.

It ends.
Where it winds up isn't nearly as interesting as the fun along the way.
Watch it or don't, its kind of a dumb question.

Its a dumb question, if I want to know a show that I will spend 36 hours of my life on, will have a proper conclusion? Some cancelled shows, like Flashforward, end suddenly and introduce more questions at the finale rather than wrapping things up. Other shows have a planned, and fantastic ending, like Breaking Bad. You obviously haven't seen enough TV shows, so move along.

Yeah it is a dumb question. It's one of the greatest shows of all time. Watch and enjoy. Deadwood movie will happen at some point so the story will continue.

Doesn't answer my question, so thanks for your dumb comment.

They actually did. I got it at least. I started the show today.

Who cares where it ends though? It's brilliant.

Umm no there won't...

Regardless of having no real ending you shouldn't let that stop you from watching. This show is a masterpiece

Enjoy the ride

It has somewhat of a conclusion, but it was left open as there was intended to be one more season. There are no cliffhangers except for a few characters who get introduced in the last season that obviously were meant to have more to do later.

Thank you Nuncle, finally a proper response

A "proper ending" is a bit subjective. I feel like each season has a definitive ending and season 3 is by far the darkest. But it ends. There's no cliffhanger. Storylines progress throughout the show with Deadwood, they don't wait until the last minute. Deadwood is a constantly in motion sort of story.

Also we might get a movie in the next 25 years so if you're left wanting there's (maybe) that to look forward to. But if you love well written stories, incredible acting, fantastic sets and amazing realism (except the swear words they use), you will adore Deadwood.

Here's the thing OP, and, anyone else who is considering watching. Don't worry about this whole, "Well, it got cancelled. I am not gonna watch it." That's BS. It was in it's second season and they decided to only renew it for one season vs. the two they wanted. So, they made season 3 so it contained all the events from the 3rd and would be 4th season. The story doesn't just stop without an ending.

It may not have been as excellent of an ending as we all deserved as fans of the show.

But, deciding to not watch this show just because it was only granted 3 seasons vs. the desired 4 is depriving yourself of the greatest television you'll ever see in your pathetic lives. So just watch it. Do it now!
