Wolcott's Fate

I've watched the series twice now, and am still wondering if Wolcott hanged himself, or was done in by Captain Turner. During the wedding ceremony montage he is seen writing a letter, at that point, presumably a letter of resignation to Hearst; then later Tolliver tells Hearst that he made Wolcott write a confession letter for him before he would clean up the Chez Amis murders (a lie for Hearst to pay Tolliver 5% of what his claims made); but then immediately following that Hearst sends Turner to see if the confession is true and we never see specifically what transpires between Turner and Wolcott. We see the rope snap on Wolcott and then moments later Turner looks at the dangling corpse from the thoroughfare. Did Wolcott commit suicide after having been cut off by Hearst (his friend/mentor/father-figure) or did Turner hang him in retribution for potentially embarrassing Hearst? Was the letter one of resignation or a suicide note?

reply

Look again at the scene where he's writing the letter. See the rope coiled up next to him?

reply

Right you are sir. Can't help but feel it's supposed to be a little ambiguous though, considering Turner's ruthlessness.

reply

Turner appears to be just arriving on scene and when he finds Wolcott hanging. I don't think anything at all implies he had any kind of interaction with him first.

reply

Watched it again, you're right. I read too much into it.

reply

So Turner killed him but Wolcott brought the rope. Really?

reply

Assisted suicide??

Wait a minute... who am I here?

reply

Turner went to find out if Wolcott had a letter, not to murder him. Wolcott killed himself over distress from his dismissal

reply

I think Wolcott killed himself because his guilt came to a head.

reply

There was the suggestion that Turner was supposed to murder Wolcott after he found out if there was a letter
