Jewel the babysitter

In one of the early episodes, Farnum tells Al that he suggested Jewel to Alma as someone who can help her watch over little Sofia. When Al scowls and adamantly says, "No," Farnum reveals that all along he was planning to send Trixie over.

My question is why does Al react so negatively to the prospect of Jewel babysitting Sofia to the point where Farnum knows that's how he'll react? Is it because Al thinks Jewel will screw it up, and at that point he wants Alma softened so she'll sell the mine? Or is it that beneath his contempt for Jewel, Al is overprotective of her and doesn't want her going off alone?

My guess is that he figured Trixie would be a better spy, but also that it would tax Jewel too much considering her infirmities. I do believe Al has a heart and took Jewel efforts into consideration.

That's pretty much what I figured! Thanks for the reply.
