I just finished watching season 3 again, and as far as I can tell, it was never made clear the connection among the theater people. If the show had been allowed to continue, we might have learned.
it seems more like David Milch was able to get an incredible actor like Cox for the show but didn't have much in store for him and went with this lame acting troupe BS as well as Langruishe possibly being gay and having a crush or history with Swearengin
