Liked it, but confused... (SPOILERS)

As I feared there is not much discussion here of this interesting movie.

I really enjoyed watching it, but like some others, I was ultimately confused by the plot line. The scenery is incredible and Lubna Azabal is mesmerizing to watch so it had that going for it. But...

She steals the gun from Fifi's client, and you expect it will lead to her killing her lover, but that never happens. In fact all it leads to is poor Fifi getting the blame for it and murdered. Ok, then I expected that Goucem would somehow find out that she was responsible, but no that never happened either.

Instead of some great climatic scene, she randomly goes to find the guy you think she hates playing bocce ball, then after chatting with him she starts hitting on some other guy. It all seemed pointless. Maybe that was the message of the movie? Life in Algiers is pointless?

(answering my own post!)

Just watched it again... this movie surprisingly stuck with me since I first viewed it. I guess I did not realize how much I actually liked it as I got caught up in worrying about the plot.

Really is a beautiful movie, which I enjoyed even more on the second viewing. I have some theories on the plot now which kinda make more sense, but also I think one can enjoy this movie very much just for the incredible scenery and acting.

Ok, guess I'll stop as it is unlikely anyone will ever actually read this anyway!

Considering it was under French colonial rule, I did not know they played bocce in Algeria, but of course Italians immigrated there as well.
