Two Sons

I know one son died in the car accident but what happended to the second son. I saw this a long time ago and have forgotten.

They both died in the same car accident. I watched this movie on HBO last night during a wakeful period from 2 am - 6 am. I thought parts of it was boring and only kept watching hoping to find out how the two brothers died. At the end of the movie, Jeff Bridges explains that the two brothers picked up him and the mother at a lodge after skiing (out West on vacation) because neither mother or father was capable to drive after many cocktails. During a heavy snow storm, a snow plow tore the car in part with the two sons in the front seats with mom and dad in the back seats. One son (who was driving) died instantly, but the other died more slowly due to a femoral artery being severed when the second son's leg was torn off. Finding out what happened to the sons was worth the wait.

Did the mother committ suicide.

This is not implied- she knows her heart is somewhat empty (or not as full of happiness/caring as it should be) due to the loss of her sons. She does not want to have her daughter suffer the agony of a having a "bad mother" (her words). So she feels it is best that she leave. In the book that this is based on, she does not commit suicide.
