question on the movie adaptation

I read the book and wanted to watch the film but I couldn't help but notice the cast seems limited. Does this only cover the summer of '58 portion of the book? I don't want to be spoiled too much but rather to find whether an adult Ruth Cole features or no. Thanks in advance.

If you've read A Widow For One Year you'll instinctively get an idea where the natural break in the story comes-- you are pretty much on the mark with your guess.

I always felt that Irving had more than one book stuffed into the novel. I actually much preferred the story of Ted, Marion & Eddie to the less compelling one of Ruth as an adult.

Also, as much as I had pictured something completely different for Ted's overall look, Jeff Bridges did such a good job in the film I was totally on board with him as Ted. Amazing.
