Based on a true story (just like My Sassy Girl)
Since I can't add to imdb trivia page for SOME REASONS.. I gonna post it here:
An unusual title and screenplay…. smelling like a blockbuster…
The origin of this movie was the Internet episode series [Su-wanee-"My Tutor Friend"].
In June 2000, CHOI Su-wan, a real-life English Literature major, posted on the Internet twenty episodes about her experience in tutoring. Each episode was viewed by 15,000 Netizens on average. The eye-catching series was then featured in www.puha.co.kr, a website specializing in comic episodes, and has since been viewed on average 30,000 times per episode.
The popularity caught on in printed medium as a comic series in the monthly Issue under the title "He and I" by SHIM Hye-jin. This was then published in one volume in 2001 by Daewon C.I., and in the same year its screenplay version was born.
The legend of a perfect cast
One of the biggest burdens on today's filmmakers is casting. Securing a star cast is a sheer battle indeed. But the launch of "My Tutor Friend" was easier than people had anticipated as a great cast was found and fixed without much trouble. In fact, all the first choice actors that the staff had in mind eagerly accepted the offer. This included the lead roles KIM Ha-nuel and KWON Sang-woo, as well as KIM Jah-oak, Su-wan's knife wielding mother, and BAEK Il-sub as Ji-hoon's father.
