1.Terrible acting from Ben Becker, he's not very convincing in a costume drama.

I voted an 7/10 for this movie, because of the suspensfully condensed Story.
Not quite as good as the earlier miniseries from 1973:
" Merkwuerdige Lebensgeschichte des Friederich Freiherr von der Trenck"
with Martin Habich.
I was convinced by the chemistry between Ben Becker and Sara Maria Lara.
Und I found the acting was superp. Not as formulated as most of the Hollywood Trash, when they attempt to do a "European Period Costume Peace".
This movie was a refreshing detour from that kind of Kitsch.
More love to the detail and well researched period setting.
I liked the scenes taken in the old Military Potsdam Barracks.
The influence of all the former eastgermen moviemakers raised the new german movie productions to a new level of quality. I just can not follow your criticism. May be you should just stick to your steady diat of Tinseltown.

If Ben Becker seems a Baron of 18 century, I am the bishop of Cork.
Better roles for him would be in sports movies; captain in a rugby team, tenis player and similars.
