Better Superman Film: Man Of Steel (2013) OR Superman Returns (2006)?

Which Superman movie is a better Superman movie and why? And which actor as Clark Kent/Superman did you like more: Henry Cavill OR Brandon Routh?

Been awhile since I've seen this one. I liked MoS though. Routh has the look, but only remember him just being ok for the character.

I think Superman Returns is way better than Man of Steel. Even though it has its shares of flaws, like pacing and casting, Returns has some of my favorite scenes of any Superman film. Redoing the land grab story from the 78 film was a mistake but it did lead to some amazing moments. I really wish they had kept his trip to Krypton in the film and I wish they removed the early scene showing Lex Luthor swindling the rich woman.
Man of Steel has one lone bright spot, which is the actress who played Faora. That's it. I didn't like any of the other actors, I thought the effects good but it was like watching someone play a video game where they fight all the time. And I thought the score was boring.
I much prefer Routh to Cavill. It's really not even close. Routh is simply a better actor for Superman and Clark Kent. Not for a moment did I like Cavill. He screams after he snaps Zod's neck. And I wanted to scream, too. And get my money back.

Faora was great. MoS had the best super-powered fight scenes ever.

You nailed it. Well written critique of both films.

Because he disappears in costume and glasses, as Clark Kent he looks really geeky compared to how he looks as Superman, Cavill looks pretty much the same in both identities because he's such a gorgeous looking guy.

Cavill wasn't Kent until the end of the movie, which seemed more like a nod to the character since Cavill didn't get the chance to portray it.

Which is a problem nowadays with movies trying to start a franchise, if the first movie doesn't win everyone over or break box office records they'll scrap all sequel plans, so there's no time anymore for a film series to grow and improve, it means second chances are at a disadvantage or extremely rare.

Kind of left with one or two films with questions your never gonna get the answers to.

They did intent for DCEU Superman to be like Injustice Superman for the rest of the DCEU.

While Superman Returns has a lot of problem. As a Superman movie its better (not menton he actually cares about helping people in that movie). MOS is a movie where everyone would literally would be better off (and alive) if Superman never came to earth. Seriously Kel-el Space-pod should have fell into black hole. It would have been a short movie, but it would have been better.

As for who the Superman, Frankly i really don''t think anyone can replace Christopher Reeve. I think Cavill could be a better Superman if he was giving a decent script. But Between the films there in. I would say Routh is better.

Man of Steel. Henry Cavill.

reply

Superman Returns because of Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor.

reply

SR because it respects the Donnerverse and isn't a complete character assassination of Superman.

Both Routh and Cavill were wasted as Superman, Routh did get a second chance in Crisis and Cavill probably isn't gonna come back if they ever do another movie which is gonna be a long while.
