What if Man of Steel came out in 2006 instead of this?

Would it have exceeded people's expectations? Would it have been better received?

Alternate History time

Man of Steel would have better received. It would also have lead to the DCEU being created sooner.

Since Zack Snyder made the film instead of Bryan Singer, Singer would have directed X-Men: Last Stand. However because Brett Ratner would actually brought in during a late stage of development, the film would still be a disappointment with Singer directing. The other X-Men films still happen exactly as they did.

No DCEU films come out in 2007 (they didn't feel ready) or 2008 (Dark Knight was owned by Warner Bros so they would still it safe using that)

Marvel still begin building up the MCU with Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk in 2008. Because no other DCEU films came out it isn't technically a shared universe yet so many still believe the DCEU is ripping off the MCU even though the DCEU came first in this timeline.

Man of Steel 2 (probably a different title) would be released in 2009. The plot would likely involve Lex Luthor played by Kevin Spacey. He would have been closer to the comics than any Lex Luthor in our own timeline. The film still features Wonder Woman in an attempt to build up a shared universe. There is a post credits scene showing the Green Lantern ring.

The 2011 Green Lantern would have taken place in the DCEU. During the same year, the Flash is released.

Suicide Squad is released in 2012 but it is very different to our timeline as the Joker, Harley Quinn and Killer Croc don't feature since Nolan is still making Dark Knight Rises. Other villains, possibly Killer Frost and Solomon Grundy are used in Harley Quinn and Killer Croc's place. There is no character standing in for the Joker.

During the same year, an Aquaman film is released.

The Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises would have remained solo films but afterwards a variation of Batman Vs. Superman would be released in 2013, following on from Man of Steel and the Dark Knight Rises. The set up would be very different due to events from Man of Steel 2. Wonder Woman doesn't appear. John Blake would be Batman. This would create some controversy as the character has traditional been Bruce Wayne.

Green Lantern 2 comes out during the same year. The plot involves him fighting Sinstero.

A Justice League film comes out in 2015 with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern and Aquaman fighting Stephenwolf.

Man of Steel 3 is released in 2016.

Captain America: Civil War is considered a rip off of Batman Vs. Superman due to how much earlier Batman Vs. Superman was released. Despite this additions like Antman and Spiderman would still make the film popular.

I don't care about a troll who doesn't pay for his opinion telling me how to review movies.

neither films were really good and given that the superhero craze didn't start(which would have at least guaranteed profit) i highly doubt man of steel would have worked either. man of steels horrid character development, *beep* story structure(poor mans batman begins would have been a harsh criticism that would cripple this film), and all around bland cast would have hurt its box office

if both films had a blend of each other then i could see it doing good. you need a director who understands the Superman character. Singer had the tone right and Snyder had the action right.

Probably one of the most spot on things I've read regarding superman.

If you had mashed them together although in my opinion with cavill as superman it would of been better received.

Saying this I loved man of steel but I'm a big fan of the old school films

If MOS had been made in 2006 may have had a different style.

I think SR would've done better as an early years story not necessarily an origin story.

No crossovers so soon after MOS.

The unmade Flyby film was similar to MOS but in it Krypton doesn't explode, so have Flyby with Krypton exploding.
