Good bye, IMDB boards
In 2005 I took a job working nights in a hospital doing all night security. Sitting for hours on end all alone in the wee hours of the night staring at monitors took it's toll. Then I found IMDB's message boards. As a hard core DC fan I was super excited for Superman Returns (which was filming at the time). Soon I was on this board all night every night chatting about Superman Returns. My screen name (back in those days) was 'Narpin'. I was here so often and so long that I eventually became one of the 'elder statesmen' of the board as new people began to flock in as the premiere date got closer and closer. I spent a lot of time on this Superman Returns board.
I worked third shift security for five years. The whole time I was an imdb regular. Eventually the Superman Returns board got old. The movie was done and there wasn't much to discuss anymore. I drifted from board to board. The Dark Knight, Fantastic Four, Star Trek '09....and as I got older (and got off the night shift) I found that these boards had changed. The average age of the users had gotten younger and I started to feel like an old man chatting with children. So I left. Oh, every now and then I'd come back and look around but I was no longer an active poster.
I just found out these boards are closing. I wanted to log in and revist my old stomping grounds - The Superman Returns board - one last time.
This board got me through a lot of long nights.
Oh, sure. I had to put up with JaredTheJa, but what can you do? Nothing is ever perfect :)
Ah, Superman Returns. What a fantastic movie and what great memories. If only the new DC Cinematic Universe could produce a Superman film this good.
