Were Scarlett and Ray confused or was it bad writing?

I had one real complaint with the movie.

Scarlett and Ray seem to be switching sides at the drop of a hat. Not once, but several times.

One minute Scarlett's concerned about "winning" the next Ray. Then back to winning, then Ray. It was confusing as hell.

And Ray, was all gravy with his dad one minute, then when grandpa clued him in wanted to stop dad. Then was trying to save him.

Were they trying to show how conflicted the characters were? Because at times it came off a little sloppy.

They are kids. Kids are illogical in the way they think. Had they been adults they probably would have gone from "Winning/Dad's side" to "Granpa/Ray" and then keep it that way, but kids don't want their dads to be shot or have their families company's name disgraced by losing a battle.

Scarlett didn't realize there were people in the suits, and I also don't believe she even the knew the severity. She thought it was all staged. She wanted to save Ray because they had become friends, but she still cared for her corporation. Ray was excited to see his Father, when he realized his father had become a different person he sided with his grandfather to stop the corporation. However that did not mean he wanted his father to die. So yes he wanted to save him.
