A new interpretation

"I look at the world and I see absurdity all around me. People do strange things constantly, to the point that, for the most part, we manage not to see it. That's why I love coffee shops and public places – I mean, they're all out there."

David Lynch

Now, this is only my take on the matter, I know no more than anyone, but look at his quote. That very well sums up Rabbits. He's taking an opinion of his, his view of people, a cynical view of how we are, what we do, how silly we can be and not even realize it... mirroring it, and adding his weird, creepy, mysterious style film style, and letting it be what all good films are meant to be. Art for art's sake.

The whole POINT of art, is to stir an emotion. Beauty, hatred, fear, happiness, etc. Art stirs us. The best film makers allow US to be the interpretor of their work. The whole beauty of the mysterious and nebulous is the fact that there IS no answer there IS no conclusion and THAT in itself is the art. That in itself is the POINT. We are left feeling confused, puzzled, scared, irritated, etc. But still wonder, still interpreting, getting on message boards to talk about it.

I feel like its all about making us CURIOUS. The POINT is to leave us baffled. In the end, I dont think Rabbits has anything at all to do with rabbits.

Pretty close to my understanding of the film, and all of Lynch's self-written works.

I equate it to say, Nirvana lyrics. There will always be people who think they know exactly what the artist means, but the songs are written without much meaning other than to let the listener go wild and construct their own meaning.

Simply put, subjective art.
