seemed a lot like a pilot episode for an interesting tv series. definitely an interesting character, but as a stand alone movie, it was pretty disappointing and slow, it went nowhere. If not for the character, its basically a low budget die hard. I am surprised QT put his name on it.

This was recently shown on an obscure BBC digital channel. A friend recorded it on DVD and sent it to me. I thought it was superb and that if it had had a big Hollywood cast everyone would be raving about it. I'm genuinely angry that previous IMDB voters have rated it so low but have resisted the temptation to artificially up my score to compensate for them.

I caught this film by accident when it was on telly at about 2am last weekend and thought it was a pretty decent effort - although it did have quite a 'Highlander' TV-series look about it, which I now realize was probably on account of the apparently non-existent budget. I was kind of hoping this WAS a pilot for a series of other films or even a TV miniseries, becasue as the OP notes, it did sort of....not so much go nowhere as kind of...end at the beginning, so it has 'sequel potential' written all over it and personally I'd have been very happy to see more.
I am not at all familiar with the main character - apart from having seen but paid no attention to those god-awful three-cell comic strips of her that used to be in the red-top dailies (was it the 'News of the World' that ran it in the 1980s or something?). Anyway I thought the actress playing Modesty was refreshingly striking-looking and she did an excellent job. Good choice, film-makers! I don't suppose anyone knows if they're planning another one?
