geetha_mateo, i maybe wrong, but i feel you've missed my point. I focused on the trailer not the film per se. The film was 'sure as hell' patriotic, could it have been anything else!? Indians are nationalists anyway... try and risk those sentiments by going against it! But, the trailers have a message too. They advertise the film... and they draw us towards the film telling us what it's about. I was appalled at how the film was advertised and what aspects of the film they focused on for the purposes of advertising. If you say, "90% of sniper victims were shot in the eye", what are they really suggesting? geetha mateo a little interpretion on that perhaps would suffice because that really was my question. my interpretation of it was, "come take a look at how they died". if the movie was about patriotism, the soldiers deserved more respect at least in the trailers. Why i focus on the trailers is because i truly believe that filmmakers also have to keep an eye on the revenue... and i 'sure as hell' smelt a rat by watching these trailers. If you are suggesting that gore doesnt attract audiences, perhaps you should think again! gore if anything is being depicted on films more and more. it's an easy way to capture one's attention and leave a lasting impression. have you heard of the much repeated terms, 'sex' and 'violence' and people's concerns as to why there's a growing reliance on them by filmmakers? I thought I was perfectly justified in doubting JP Dutta's motives... make a war movie; usually that rakes in the revenue; try and strike at the nationalistic sentiments in india to get people to watch it... can you say this was a charity drive on JP dutta's part? i don't think so...
So geetha, keep the roses and the red wine, I was actually sharing my concerns about the film industry's motives behind a 'patriotic' film. I have no respect for bollywood that relentlessly sells its 'it's the time to disco' garbage to the people making a mockery of our potential talent base. Hence, when a film on the war in kashmir emanates from here i have every reason to question their intentions. So many of the actors and directors have underworld links... the same people directly or indirectly linked to the terrorists we fight in JK. Perhaps that is why I feel the soldiers who gave up their lives should have their identities better protected rather than become a commodity for sale.
