Good Science?

I've seen many reviews of this praising the science and deriding the melodrama. I've seen an equal amount saying terrible science but the family drama made it watchable.

I find this interesting, because while the drama element is purely subjective, science is not - it's wholly objective and quantifyable. Just ask, "Can this happen?" and you've got your answer.

Does anyone believe that the problem is feasible, and the solution viable?

On another note, I thought it was hilarious that the general had to ask someone to find out the coordinates of a polar research centre that's situated exactly on the North Pole. Just go up, right?

I didn't like either - the family stuff or the science stuff. I'm quite fascinated with storms and lightning but this felt all too silly. A bit like The Day After Tomorrow.
