Assault on Precinct 13 - coincidental?

It may seem like a far shot, but isn't the whole premise of the stakeout in both movies kinda similar? I think Assault on Precinct 13 might not be Bollywood-inspired but the coincidence is indeed remarkable.

Yes many Bollywood films are very similar to some Hollywood films.

"I will never let go, Jack. I'll never let go."-Rose DeWitt Bukater From TITANIC (1997)

reply

No! My point is, Khakee came *before* Assault on Precinct 13 :) Its the other way around!

reply

Dude, the Assault on Precinct 13 you are referring to was indeed made in the year 2005 after Khakee (2004). But that itself is inspired for the Hollywood original "Assault on Precinct 13 (1976)"!

Now, after doing some research on the Copy-Paste Bollywood movies, I am really feeling ashamed for the movies, I was once proud of [:(]!

same here man but u cant help that now can you....its been going on for years and it aint going to stop unless someone takes a really hard fall for it....but not all the movies are bad, i mean there is still some good stories as in Khakee itself...then we got other world class movies like Lagaan...Dil Chahta Hai...Rang De Basanti....Munnabhai1&2...Gangajal and stuff like that, these are just a few of the original movies that you can watch from bollywood and they arent copies of anything as far as i can say but hey i may be wrong. anyways not all hope is lost yet.

I have seen the movies that you have listed.
Saw all of them - third day, first show. (less of a crowd)
Liked them all.

May I add 'Aankhen' (2002)

reply

agreed 100% with aankhen as well....loved the movie and the whole concept of 3 blind men robbin the bank as a revenge by bank officer....i was gobsmacked to see how on earth did they come up with such a brilliant idea without copyin it (Sorry...any good Indian film does get me thinkin as to which movie would it be copied from). but so far i didnt come across any movie with that storyline as of aankhen....brilliant movie....excellent performances by akshay....paresh...amitabh....suhmita, arjun was soso in it though....

You probably haven't watched Blind Rage (1978) then. Please watch it (It is available free somewhere) and then post that comment again! ;-)

Good Day to all.

Just curious if anyone else has a problem
with the "Khakee" DVD. I bought my copy,
which I believe is an original, from one of the
better stores in Little India. Not a grocery
store, but one that retails CD's and DVD's.

The video and audio 'freezes' at the point
where Yashwant (Ajay Devgan) introduces himself
to the officers seeking shelter in the farm house.

After pressing the fast forward search and/or
forward skip the disc continues playing without
any problems.

A relative of mine of mine bought his
copy online from the distributor retail
dept., and they are having the same problem.

Different DVD players and still same problem.

Thanks in advance for any help.

this exact same thing happened to me last night when I watched a DVD copy from Netflix -- in the exact same spot, when he's sitting on the swing.

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply, I believe the
copies that my relative and I have are made
for a widescreen TV. On our square TV (4:3)
the title is cut off and only 'akee' is visible.

All this for a nicely made, no filler movie.

All the best.

I've read the plot of Assaunt on Precinct 13 (1976) and Khakee hasn't ripped it off... and the few similarites that remain are entirely dimissible

reply

Hey man,

Pretty late reply but maybe this might help. Just saw the movie a second time today. That part where ajay is on the swing is where the chapter ends and transitions into the next chapter (kinda like an intermission). At this point, the movie has been paused for 30 or so seconds to give that intermission feel. Hence, the "delay". If you forwarded it, basically you skipped the 30 seconds and completed the intermission, that's all :)

RANG DE BASANTI IS A COPY OF JESUS DE MONTREAL

reply

Khakee is a rip off of "The gauntlet", not precint 13.

who gives a flying fvck if a movie is copied or borrows a few ideas from some obscure movie no one has seen...if there's some crappy English movie from 1000years ago that even English people havent seen then who cares if Bollywood does a number on it. Although Hollywood is in no way better all they do it take lesser known foreign movie and remake them...nobody complains then do they. double standards.
