Live action dream cast?
I am still baffled as to why there isn't a live action adaptation of HMC. I always thought that the animated film is pretty much the definition of magical, but I just finished reading the book and there are so many wonderful layers to it. It's a shame that we have these great stories laying around and all we keep getting are remakes of Cinderella, Peter Pan, Alice...
Perhaps people wouldn't be interested in watching an old woman as the main heroine for the duration of a movie? I don't know.
For Sophie I'd LOVE to see Saoirse Ronan, who is not stereotypically pretty and has a mature look about her. Either Maggie Smith or Judi Dench would be a wonderful older Sophie. Perhaps Emma Watson for Lettie?
I'm pretty much stuck on Howl but I think they should cast an unknown for him. Not just another Hollywood pretty boy who we've all seen before.
For Calcifer's voice, Johnny Depp would actually nail it I think.
As far as directors go, it needs somebody with vision and who will be faithful to the story. NOT TIM BURTON. I'd rather want to see Peter Jackson, Henry Selick, Wes Anderson, or heck maybe even Christopher Nolan taking this on.
