Billy Crystal ruined it.

Why does Disney pay for name recognition and pay these twits big bucks, when they could find a voice that suits the character more. Crystal was, well, Billy Crystal. Wow. Terrible choice.

Maybe I'm biased because I'm a fan of his, but I liked him just fine here. Then again, my fandom didn't help me like the Monsters films any better so that may not be it. Still though, if a vocal performance bothers you in an anime film there's always the Japanese audio and subtitle route.

"If life is getting you down and needs uplifting, then please come dance with me!"

I wasn't aware Crystal had fans, just figured we all just tolerated him... yes I will listen to the other version.

As someone who does not enjoy Billy Crystal for the most part, I liked his performance in this.

You are sin.

reply

Billy Crystal is perfect, shut up your face.

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

reply

Agreed. "Mugging" for larffs always sucks.

reply

I loved Billy Crystal as Calcifer. He was a great voice for that cute little fire demon.

reply

I'm sorry, but I am right. He put no imagination into the character, he just read the lines. I could have went to any high school and found a better voice suited for the flame. They hired him for name recognition, not vocal talent. It's all about generating money, and when you get a Hollywood name on board, the studio assumes more people will go to see an Anime film. It's sad. I liked the original much better, that voice suited the character much better.

reply

I'm glad you enjoyed the film and it's original cast but that doesn't give you the right to flat out call someone else's opinion wrong. I don't watch the English dub of Kiki because I find Phil Hartmann distracting, but I'm not gonna criticize those who do enjoy him in that film.

I liked the character Calcifer's English voice. Too bad for you that you don't though.

reply

I really liked him as Calcifer.

If it's all the same to you, I'll have that drink now.-Loki (Marvel's Avengers)

reply

Calcifer was a funny sometimes annoying character. But yeah, I think using Mike Wazowski from Monsters, Inc. is pretty...odd... All I can hear in his voice was Mike and I always wondered why use a big-named star for him.

I remember when I did Boo's Adventures for this movie.
