Plot missing?

Although I really liked the atmosphere of this movie, the culture split and the vulnerable but impressive characters. I felt there was a missing part of the story between Sibel being stabbed and then suddenly having a family with a kid? What happened in between? There wasn't even an indication of the time between that incident and the time when Cahit came back?
Also, after Cahit's return so they reunited just for some sex and that's it?

In between her assault and Cahit's return Sibel had a child (we assume as a result of the rape) and was in a relationship (we assume with the cab driver that saved found her after the assault). This is the closest Sibel has ever been to a "normal" life free of turmoil.

Her reunion with Cahit and the subsequent sex they had was to consummate their marriage and legitimize everything they had gone through. Do you remember the scene earlier on in the movie when they almost had sex and she stops him and says something to the effect of "once we do this then our marriage is for real."

I was discussing this movie with some friends years ago and I said that it was the most realistic portrayal of intense love I had ever seen in a film. The question was posed as to why I felt this. I replied with because it "screwed up" and didn't end in a fairy-tale type moment. Call me disillusioned but it has been my experience that most intense love affairs (regardless of there nature or structure) end tragically. The less intense a love is the greater the chance of a happy ending.

I doubt the kid was a result of a rape.

I'm guessing murder gets you thrown in jail for a while, even in Europe, so Cahit had to be away for at least 7 or 8 years, right?

She was raped a few weeks after she came to Turkey, so if the kid was from that, it'd be a lot older than that kid she was pushing in a stroller.
