Do I want to see this? Sounds trite, overused topic.

Is this the same old, underground, gritty fighting world - and one hero of the story that beats all, until that big, epic last battle to the last breath, the one fight on which lives hinge?

Pretty much. But he's doing it for a promise he made to a friend, not for himself.

You should watch it just for the fight-scenes. They got some nice moves in it.

Nope it's not at all like that. I won't say much since I don't want to spoil it for you as I recommend watching it. The interconnectedness is unravelled brilliantly throughout and at the end of the film.

This movie is not at all about a guy achieving success in an underground fighting world. The protagonist is only using the setting to achieve something more altruistic that is revealed at the end.

Couldn't have said it better myself. The fact that this adds something new to the underground tournament storyline is one of the reasons why this movie is awesome. I also agree about the connections between the characters and what you learn about the hero's motivations. It's so much better crafted than many underground tournament movies, it really is worth your time.
