Don't waste your time

This movie is more shallow than a puddle. Nothing is known about Bone other than his motive for fighting which comes to light midway into the movie but has past and future isn't wrote into this ridiculous script. It's really one of those early 1990's Billy Blanks type movies where it's a lot of jumping spin kicks and quadruple kicks that flatten 4 guys in one jump (lol) with a few modern day grappling techniques thrown in occasionally to prove it wasn't shot in 1995. Michael is like Universal Soldier on steroids to the 10th power who would own Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Steven Seagal, Jean Claude Van Damme, Jeff Speakman, Billy Blanks, and Don Wilson all at the same time according to this movie, lol. Bob Sapp, Kimbo Slice, and Gina Carano have roles in the movie which won't do anything for their acting careers especially Gina who probably killed her career just by having her name on this garbage.

If this sounds racist I don't really care even if it gets deleted but it's a typical low budget black fight flick that has the same story about the black man being superior to all races and having the bronze and heart to always do the right thing and come out on top while having all women especially Caucasian lusting after them but still being held down as much as possible by the evil Caucasian MAN, lol. It's probably one of many to come by someone who wasted their acting career on this kind of garbage like Michael did. The movie is entertaining if nothing else is on Showtime at 3am.

reply

I don't think this movie is racist.

But the movie is one dimensional, and even though MJ White is a talented fighter, if you've seen one fight, you've seen them all.

They should have called this movie: MJ White vs cannon fodder.

reply

I don't understand why this Movie is getting so much flack, it's a good little film and i recommend it if you have a spare 90 mins. And as a side note I'm glad the fight scenes weren't over the top.

I Don't Care For The Answer, I Only Wish To Understand The Question.

Yea, that comment was racist. as hell my guy. Mike Jai White is one the best true martial artist out there making films alongside Scott Adkins, Mark Dacascos, and Donnie Yen. It has nothing to do with race. I People prob like yourself wasn't complain about never back down. Yea, this is slightly an urban movie but 95% of Hollywood film are based inside cities, so to see reality set in if you are in Downtown LA you are going to see Englishmen, Asians, Afro-Americans,and Latinos like you seen. This was a very good movie, if it wasn't why did Sony purchase it?

reply

DACASCOS!!!! I forgot him. Dammnit all.

Wow ripcord, I dont know where to start other than by saying your an idiot.

Firstly, I loved how Bone's backround was left a mystery, I personally think it added alot more depth to the movie rather than make it shallow like you say. When hes asked about his past he quickly changes the subject, then later we see hes just as skilled with weapons (guns, and swords) as he is with his fists, leaving the viewer to fill the blanks with their imagination rather than being told the same old "highly trained ex-special forces" backround like every other movie of this style.

Secondly, if you want 100% realism in every fight scene, go and watch some MMA!!! This movie is all about entertainment, which it delivered in every fight scene. And yes he flattens 4 people with one jump, but it was the only superhuman move in the whole movie and lets face it, when its a movie about an unstoppable, unbeatable fighter, it had to have at least one.

Lastly, your logic in saying this movie is racist so flawed its not funny. What your saying is just because the main character is black, the whole moral of the story is that the black man is superior?? WTF?!?! Maybe you didnt notice this when you watched it, but the bad guy IS BLACK. We see James beat his girlfriend, pump her full of drugs, then prostitute her to Bone for his own personal gain... is this your idea of having a 'bronze heart to always do the right thing'?? Not to mention when James tries to move up his superiors (the whites) tell him 'Do you make a place for your pitbulls at the dinner table?'. And where exactly does portray blacks having all Caucasian women lusting after after them?!? Um id say James sending a stranger to jail for a triple homicide just to get his wife would be a black lusting after a Caucasian, wouldnt you?

reply

So we got a Black hero whooping the asses of people who are all races, and you see that as the film saying Black people are superior? Bone, who is a complete badass, gets the attention of one girl who is a fighter and suddenly this film is trying to depict white woman lusting after Black men? I think your perceptions are saying a lot more about you than anything you claim this film has to say about society.

to OP: if you really want to pick apart every fighting movie, you can, and it's all gonna be garbage...so if you don't like the genre, watch something else...movie was good, final fight scene was fantastic

LMAOOOOO, I actually agreed with some of your points here but nothing in your second post. I thought Eamonn Walker was wasted a bit in this film. MJW, as awesome as he is and was in this film, he was superhuman in this lol, he had NO real challenge, not even the villains. In some ways I can see some comparing it to a Bruce Lee film but he had challenges in his films lol, Kareem, Chuck Norris etc. MJW's character Bone wasn't even nervous, nor broke a sweat lol. I really liked this film but that was the only real flaw in this film IHMO.

Sounds like you have a problem with a black man being superior. Great movie by the way despite the black man being the hero! Oh no, what should we do???

ah cmon it was blacksploitation and yes there was that racist bit about the white man opressing the blacks lol but lets get real here for a sec.

Yes, the fighting wasn't very realistic but (hey cmon its thai chi, ofc mma style fighting is more realistic than thai chi, hell if you want realism dont go watch fighting movies because obviously they are NEVER realistic since the invention of the gun) it was all in all very enjoyable.

The plot is jsut straight out WACK with .. some superwhite(BLACKLOL)knight to the nth power who clears out the *beep* hood evar by... pricefighting rofl.

cmon it was a very enjoyable stupid movie, and dont hate on it beacuse it's blacksploitation, that's just what it is, dont hate on it for what it is, but enjoy the good parts of it.

I had a great time with this movie, laughed my ass off near the ridiculous ending, and enjoyed the pretty good fighting scenes (AND YES IT IS THAI CHI WE KNOW),

still owns any *beep* wire fu, but can't touch on the later van dammes etc.

I thought this movie was pretty dang good myself probably my second favorite Michael Jai White movie, first would be Undisputed 2. I hope for a sequel out of this movie with Michael Jai White IN IT. Only problem I saw in this movie was the second to last fight I thought they could have picked a better fighter because that dude seemed like he was kinda slow for Michael I noticed he had to slow down a few times which screwed up a few steps and the fight scene but other than that pretty dang good movie.

I don't know, but i would have like a Jason Statham vs MJW at the end, they are pretty much of the same shape and similar fighting style. Price was good, but for some reason i think Jason have a "bad guy face" and could pull it out.

reply

[deleted]

In a movie dude, not in real life, Jason could pull it off when directed properly.

reply

I think MJW is actually much bigger than Jason.. MJW muscles are HUGE!!

This is no different than any straight-to-video martial arts movie that's come out over the last 15-20 yrs except that it's got some great fight action. Why criticize this one any differently than the other 500 movies that have come out? Yeah, the script is weak. It obviously wasn't gonna be Shakespeare considering the subject matter. The story is another in a line of retread stories action films use as a backdrop to some good fight action, which is the real star of the movie. I don't know where you get the idea that this movie is supposed to prove he's better than any of the other already established marital arts stars. He's just another action star doing his thing. I think you're threatened by the fact that his character refused to allow himself to be beaten or fallen by his opponents. I admit, that is one of the flaws of the story but hardly one thats never been employed by most of the action stars you mentioned, especially Seagal whose made a career out of that trait. And I doubt that tiny five seconds Gina Carano was on-screen did any damage to her career. I think she'll be ok.

The OP obviously has racial issues as he so played himself in his following post. Typical low budget black flick? I don't see any of the crap he's talking about in there. If anything, it's a typical marital arts straight to video flick. Typical undeveloped/lone wolf lead character. What gave you the idea that he thought he was superior to all races? I just saw a man punching his was through all comers. how come when someone white does it, the same theory doesn't apply ? Only whites are allowed to be superior, I guess huh? White women lusting after him? That must have really made you jealous haha. There was one white woman fighter who came up to him to give her number after he demolished the fight mob. So what did his race have to do with it ? Have you ever been to a mixed marital arts show? Beautiful woman of all races, flock to those things because they are attracted to fighters.

MJW hasn't wasted his career. He's shown he's a versatile actor who can also do marital arts. He took the less-traveled avenue of taking real acting roles first and showcasing his fight skills second. Insuring he'll have longevity in the biz unlike alot of martial artists with acting skills who typecast themselves by building their acting careers soley on action and marital arts movies. If anything, I'm sure we'll see more of MJW in both mainstream and hopefully more action roles. This movie is one of the hottest D2D action rentals of the past several months. Three of my local Blockbusters had to order extra copies.

I think the fact that Michael Jai White actually did those stunts without wires completely negates any completes about this movie being a waste of time. The Joker in The Dark Knight didn't have any explanations either and that hardly took anything away from that character. If you can't appreciate the kind of depth that this movie has then it's not the movie that is stupid or shallow.
