Why is now acceptable to have profanity in the title of tv shows?
Whatever happened to the seven dirty words you couldn't say on the air? Has that FCC rule changed? Are cable stations exempt from that rule? Why does it seems like major networks are starting to air programs with profanity in the titles?
I recently watched a television show called Cook Your Ass Off. I also saw a short film on network television called Taking the Piss. The episode on Sex and the City called The *beep* Buddy was only one of many episodes recently using that word in the title.
I was surprised to see that there was a show called Talentless *beep* and a televised documentary called *beep* Blues back in the day. It seems these titles got past the censors.
*beep* was on the title of several episodes including those of Sex and the City and Dexter. Additionally, there were several recent television episodes with the title Tits that probably wouldn't have been aired years ago but are now being shown without being censored.
Consequently, cable shows are being picked up by the networks, the dirty titles remain but a lot of the dialog is being beeped out, much to the chagrin of some viewers.
