Sponsored by Monsanto?

Or is episode 1.11 just really dated?

reply

eco-terrorists have literally made up lies and fake studies to put down GM foods as 'poison' when there is no evidence (i assume this is the episode you're talking about?). sure, monsanto is a big greedy corporation, but there is nothing wrong with GM unless you're religious and believe in the sanctity of intelligent design. like the lie about insecticide proteins causing miscarriages and cancer in rats and showing up in bloodwork -- the proteins only affect ladybug larvae, they're completely inert in all mammals and they're completely natural, not man-made chemicals at all -- and they've been used in agriculture for well over 50 years.

Zzyxx seems to be a corporate shill. Aye, it does seem quite dated.

reply

"Zzyxx seems to be a corporate shill."

You hide behind a non-peer reviewed shield of anti-scientific propaganda bought and paid for by the $30 billion+ dollar organic industry, the entire existence of which precipitates on selling lower wuality and quantity food at massive mark-up by exploiting ignorance and egos, yet HE'S the corporate shill. Uh huh.

I bet you're one of those people that think alt medicines can cure cancer, aids and raqke your lawn, and are only held back because of "smear campaigns" by TEH BIG PHARMAZ!111, right?

reply

Hah. Nice straw man, friendo. I've got no such delusions. 30 billion is a drop in the bucket compared to the entire corporate agenda being railroaded into power through bought politicians on both sides of the aisle.

Tell me: If population was going up, resources were going down, and you were one of the 1% that owns 50% of the world's wealth, wouldn't you be doing everything to lower the life expectancy to make room? Like that old short story Soylent Green was based on, before they made it about cannibalism.

Fact of the matter is, too many people, not enough to go around. So why not kill off a few hundred million? Or a billion. Not all at once, mind you, but slowly. Through tainted foods that are rubber stamped through FDA evaluation, through residual drugs and pollutants in the water... The Monsanto mindset.. Or are you one of those folks who believe that the sooner we ruin the planet, the sooner we get back at those draft card burning pinkos, eh?

Sure, I bet you'd like to go back to the good ol' days, where you could just hire a few dozen Pinkertons to brutalize and beat down on the working man.

You're defending your oppressors and you don't even know it. This country, eh? BEST IN THE WORLD!

reply

The only problem with that plan is that you'll eventually end up poisoning yourself.

reply

How so? Its very easy to have one food supply for yourself and people you designate and another food supply for the rest of people. It already happens today so your point makes no sense.

reply

the anti gmo movement is anti science and flat earth. Like anti vax

reply

Hah. Nice straw man, friendo.

You should learn what that term actually means before tossing it around, "friendo".

I've got no such delusions. 30 billion is a drop in the bucket compared to the entire corporate agenda being railroaded into power through bought politicians on both sides of the aisle.

So, you've got nothing but delusions and lame parrot points about conspiracy theories by Corporate Boogeymen. Got it.

Sure, I bet you'd like to go back to the good ol' days, where you could just hire a few dozen Pinkertons to brutalize and beat down on the working man.

No, I'm defending hard science and the ability to feed starving people. you're just spouting off the same anti-science, genocidal Communist agitprop that was thoroughly debunked decades ago.

reply

If evil money grubbing Monsanto wants to make lots of money the best thing they can do is sell safe food.

How would the people how want me to buy only organic food react if I said only Creationism should be taught in schools? Make guess is they would attack me for being anti-science yet not see how anti-science they are.

How to spot the Lefty Loon: obsessed with Monsanto, McDonald's, Microsoft, Google, Kochtopus, Zionists, etc. Basically conspiracy theorists.

God forbid people be worried about companies that have done bad things in the past. Yeah what nutcases they must be to be using past evidence to warn people. You do know without people questioning motives and putting pressures on large corporations that we would have the standards of Chinese products years ago as well as uncontrollable monopolies, get your head out of your a$$ please.

Monsanto says themselves they genetically engineer seeds...Wheres the conspiracy exactly? People are going on information that even the company itself acknowledges, please get with the times before posting. If you want to eat tampered with food then fine thats your choice, but dont $hit on other people who want the choice of having food grown naturally and are having that taken away slowly by a company thats known for purposely spilling theyre seeds onto farmers lands and then suing them and taking over their farms. Perhaps you need to research the subjects you wrote about before talking about them?

reply

As Yale Cultural cognition and others have shown anti-GMO is a flat earth anti science movement, like anti vaccine.

Can you name one peer reviewed study showing a danger to human health from GMO?

Virtually all anti gmo activists (who are frequently anti vax nuts as well) think there is such peer reviewed work, and there is NONE

You can't convince these people with logic. My GF is one of them.
Organic, means no pesticides to kill organisms that may be 100x more deadly than the pesticide in question.
GMO means to modifying a plant or animal to be resistant to pests and diseases that might otherwise require toxic pesticides or antibiotics. It's a lose/lose argument with health nuts. they don't want the marginally harmful toxins and they don't want GMO's.
Also gmo can make food more abundant for feeding an exploding world population. Corn used to be one ear per stalk. Now they can get 8-10 ears per stalk. Crops that require lots of irrigation can now be grown in arid locations usually hit hardest with famine. I read somewhere a while back that they are now modifying crops to be more nutritious by boosting certain vitamins and proteins.

Chipotle restaurants use only organic and non-GMO ingredients. Look at all the trouble they've been having. More people are getting sick eating heathy, that eating at McDonald's with 10x as many stores.

What it boils down to is the well heeled urban yuppies and hipsters can afford organic foods, the masses can't.

Man the number of people on this site who actually believed Penn and Teller are a bunch of dumbasses.

None of the stuff Penn and Teller has claimed in regards to GMO was true. GMOs can make more abundant? LOL they've done the exact opposite. Both with their terminator seeds and suing farmers who got their fields contaminated by the GMO seeds. Anyone with half a working braincell can easily do a search to find out GMO companies had been the leading cause for farmer suicides especially in India. Not to mention the companies themselves have admitted they haven't tested the safety of their crops and don't feel like they need to. Or the fact the FDA approving of these companies use to work for Monsanto.

Then again many people are praising the "truths" presented by paid illusionist (hint: their job is to trick people that something is real) who has a higher boss funding them. You guys really are stupid.
