Martial arts and self-confidence

Does doing martial arts really magically increases your self-confidence?

reply

Psychologically speaking it can be used to treat many things including self confidence and antisocial behaviours.

Sort of a placebo effect?

Why consider for less people with low or no self-confidence or those who build self-confidence not from martial arts?

reply

Becoming proficient at any desired skill can produce self confidence.

Any athletic activity can greatly increase self confidence and body image. The problem with most sports is that they discourage those who are not natually talented.

With martial arts, it often encourages those who are not naturally talented by setting staged goals and expectations based on your skill level.

Imagine a basketball school that taught complete beginners, and you only competed against people your own rank. Then you gradually progressed in rank as your skill increased? How great would that be for those who are not atheltically talented?

What if this case is placed on playing musical instruments rather than athletiscm?

Guess there really are people who act worse than 12 year olds.

Can anyone else comment?
