Is this a movie or a miniseries?

i haven't seen it, but it's near the top of my "stuff i need to see" list!

i was just wondering was it made to be split up into four parts, or do the television networks just quarter it to make viewing more managable (cause who has a spare 6 hours these days?!)

how long is it anyway?

I wish I could think of something witty to put here... but I can't.

It was made for TV, to be split up into four parts.
When it was finished, broadcast of the TV series was first postponed.
Then the film went to Cannes and, following the success, Rai (Italian TV) released it in cinemas, in two parts (and later on TV in a 4-installment series).

Duration: 6 hours.
