Nicola + Giulia Celebrity Look-Alikes

OK, first of all, Giulia is a carbon copy of Robin Wright Penn. And I just kept seeing Dustin Hoffman in Nicola...especially in profile in his younger years. Who's with me??

reply

I'm not familiar enough with Robin Wright Penn to tell, but I'm totally with you on the Dustin Hoffman resemblance of Nicola - especially when laughing in profile. In later years (middle age) he reminded me more of Dutch comedian & writer Kees van Kooten.

reply

True, very true.

But the thing I noticed most was the way Matteo, especially when his hair was longer, looked like Christopher Walken.

reply

Come on, folks, Dustin Hoffman?! The actor playing Nicola is a dead ringer for Rob Morrow, of the classic U.S. television series "Northern Exposure" and the current one "Num3ers". For those abroad, you may recall him from the Robert Redford-directed QUIZ SHOW. As for Matteo, Quistnix is on target, but isn't there also some resemblance to the young Clint Eastwood, back when he was starring in spaghetti westerns for Sergio Leone?
Happy viewing and... don't spill your popcorn!

Yeah, I kept thinking the same thing about Nicola. "It's an Italian Rob Morrow!"

But as for Matteo, especially when he had shorter hair, I thought he looked a lot like Hugh Jackman.

It's funny how so many people see so many different famous Americans in his face.

I was thinking a young Dustin Hoffman from the Graduate era but Nicola is still waaaayyyyyyyy better looking.

reply

With the beard, Nicola really looked like 1970s era Dustin Hoffman.

And I thought Giulia looked like Franke Potente - but maybe it was the changing hair colors that gave that impression.

I didn't think of the Walken resemblance for Matteo, but now that you mention it, I agree.

But after spending six wonderful hours with these people, I feel like they look just like themselves, no one else...

I'm sorry to say I don't see the Clint resemblence in Alessio Boni's face!

reply

[deleted]

I completely agree with that. I kept saying: she's the Italian Kate Winslet!!!

reply

I thought the adult Sara looked a lot like Katie Holmes.

reply

It's interesting how just about every actor with a prominent role in this film reminded someone of another, American actor. Though I can see where you guys are coming from in making these comparisons, I also think these actors were all pretty special and unique (not to mention very talented!) in their own right. Sorry for stating the obvious but maybe someday, when one or more of these actors will be more internationally acclaimed (they certainly deserve it), they won't look like someone else as much anymore.

reply

Guilia looked a bit like a young Julie Christie. Just a bit, though.

reply

I'm in total agreement about the unique actors in this unique film deserving their own international acclaim, Daniela (as are, I think, all the commentators in this thread), but it's just a game, so...sorry to state the obvious, but maybe some folks need to lighten up just a bit.
Have fun and... don't spill your popcorn!

That's OK - I used to post as BuBuBoi, then opened another account - this one - which is the only one I use currently - you'll therefore notice I've contributed to this thread as well, and have also suggested other actors that the Meglio Gioventù cast resemble. So though I might possibly need lightening up on certain things, this matter is not one of them, since I have taken part in the "game" myself. More recently, I just also wanted to bring up another side to the whole argument, ie that Alessio Boni, Luigi Lo Cascio, Sonia Bergamasco, etc etc are also very much individual in their own way of being. Some people's perception of film is very Hollywood or America-centric so I guess my post was a way of balancing that out...

I'm sorry but I thought Giulia looked like James Woods. I was unnerved whenever she was on the screen.
