At the end of episode 14 in the 1st GIG when Togusa and his wife leave the room and the computer switches on by itself, it purchases stocks in Serano Genomics right? So what does this mean exactly? Was someone hacking the computer or had that program that played the stock markets for that deceased rich guy somehow got onto Togusa's computer? Or something else?

I always felt it was a form of shared processing.
Ishikawa did it when they were trying to find Imakurusu in episode 21. The idea being to use as many computers as possible to carry out huge information loads one computer or network couldn't handle on it's own.
It could be that the guy's stock market software used computers that were in sleep mode to make trades that his computer alone couldn't handle.
i kinda felt that the computer came to "Be" and helped them similarly to the tachikomas helping bato.
the part that someone said about the humans becoming more machine-like is interesting because i thought tagusas wife seemed like a robot but i guess shes not and just lifeless? not sure.
I'm pretty sure it was just an anonymous hacker stealing the money that Togusa's wife has made through stock trading. I think it was just an interesting way to end the episode.

shareThey way I see it. Togasa was ordered by the Major to handle the mission report personally and made a copy of the program. Seeing as it is never mentioned again in the show I may be correct.

it was a program written by serano. their stocks were diving so they tried many ways to prevent bankrupcy.

shareIt was the computer of the dead billionaire robust gave the dead man a coin for passage across the river to the afterlife. It may seem small in the eyes of everyone else but the billionaire died in a room full of gold bullion. He can't use any of it to pay the ferry man for passage across the river Styx. When togusa came home his wife was playing the stock market the Ai followed togusa home and hacked into his computer and now works for.him. kinda like a "ghost" remnant to work for him and look after him because of his charity.
