i hate judge mathis

and let me start off with, i dont watch him. exactly for the reason stated in the title. i give him chance after chance and he just pisses me off!!! he hardly chastises parents for raising *beep* up children. he thinks everything is a joke, and when the litigants start joking he gets annoyed.

there was a case today with a white mother suing her daughter. the daughter told of how her sister's father (but not hers) lived in the home and would beat all the mother's kids except for his own child. the daughter got beat at the homecoming game while that man held her hands back. the daughter would run away from the abusive house and because of that she was sent to juvenile hall and group homes. the mother was an alcoholic and chose men over her kids. in turn, the daughter ended up getting with a man who was worth nothing and having 6 kids with him and living on welfare. now that was the daughter's choice. but mathis blamed everything on her. asking her "did your mother cause you to get with a worthless man?" and the daughter answered no. well, actually, a messed up childhood like that would affect somebody to an extent like that. the daughter is essentially in charge of her life. but mathis did not scold the mother AT ALL. he didnt even ask if the mother allowed the father of only one of her kids to beat her other kids.

mathis tries to act as if he's all holier than thou. giving to charity, and donating time. but he MUST not know that dysfunctionalism like that can affect someone. the fact he didnt question or scold the mother at all really annoyed me.

if you notice, most of his cases have so many ghetto, ignorant, loud mouthed people on there. and from what i've observed, his audience is about the same.

and dysfunctionalism should totally be a word

im sticking to the peoples court. judge milian is a woman and she is nowhere near emotional as that man that thinks he's protecting the law. i just hate that she comes on 1 and 4 and mathis is 2 and 3.

You're crying about one case out of the hundreds that he does. All of these court shows have fun and lay down some questionable verdicts. I've been watching all of these shows and Mathis puts down some serous tough love and straight verdicts on most of the participants. But he also has fun too because most of these are plain small claims cases and because it's on tv, they try to entertain. A normal small claims court wouldn't allow such unrelated testimony about relationship, prior offensive and sex talk. But all of these shows do that because it's tv and without all of that, no one would tune in.

I admit, Mathis is more entertaining than most. You don't hear bailiffs chiming in with wisecracks on people's court or, Joe Brown or Judge Judy.

As for the case you mentioned, it is the daughter's fault. Mathis' main jobs is to rule on the case before him not the causes. If you could use dysfunctionalism as a defense, everybody and their mother would be doing it and getting off scott-free. In fact, everybody and their mother DOES use it as a last gasp defense when they're facing jail time now. Im sure he laid down some judgment about how the parents treated the girl but he can't do anything about that. That would be more of a criminal issue not small claims.

well, i would have hundreds more examples since their seems to be one out of every segment/litigant; but that wouldnt really fit with my hating and not watching him stance.

and as i said already, mathis laid down NO judgment. the mother admitted that she let the other child's father beat her children and mathis said NOTHING. probably in his head, but nothing the audience could hear.

mathis is entertaining only because of doyle. thats it. he seems like a short tempered, mildly ignorant man, who brings his wrath down on the unsuspecting and deserving. when i watched mathis i noticed it but i tried to let it not bother me. now i havent watched him for YEARS and besides other judges being boring, quick witted/funny (alex), always mean (judy), semi-impatient (milian), they will always be tons better than mathis.

i really dont know why i felt i had to make a thread actually. lmao. maybe that case just really made me mad

edit:

i meant UNdeserving

Sounds like you have a bias but that's ok. I have mine too. Im not a fan of judge alex. Very flat and boring to me. I love judge Judy but you're right she's always mean, impatient and very short-tempered and I think that's why she's popular. Judge Joe Brown is too condescending. Peoples' Court Judge Milian is the most even out of all of them (and the hottest). But I still prefer Mathis because his cases are funny and Im more concerned with the cases themselves than the judges but he's a funny guy too. None of them are perfect and they all miss opportunities to pass judgment on morality from time to time.

reply

why do you think i have a bias?

reply

You obviously don't like Mathis so I don't think anything positive I say about him will matter to you. Im not saying it's racial or anything. Im just saying. Maybe it's the title of your thread, I dunno. Like I said, I don't care for Judge Alex. Im sure he's a fair guy but I've watched several episodes and I haven't had the desire to tune back in. But I don't even think he's on anymore anyway at least in my area unless he's on when Im at work.

reply

Actually his show is still on in the Detroit area (as is Mathis, who's from here) weekday afternoons. I have to admit,Judge Mathis is the funniest one out of them all, period.

lmao to add, my "bias" is not racial as i am black myself and live in chicago

anyway, another reason i hate judge mathis, the "ask judge mathis" segment

he used to at least answer the questions. now its "thank you for your question. for the answer go to askjudgemathis.com" soooooo freaking stupid to me and a waste of time. they need to just cut that part out of the credits

i havent watched him in a while to change my opinion, but there's a commercial they play where the defendant is talking about the plaintiff's house smells like feet, the plaintiff (in the commercial, so who knows what order this was said and when she said it) said "can we get to the topic" and the judge answers "no. we'll get to it when im ready"

he spends too much time on their background information embarrassing them (which is partially their fault for agreeing to be on this stupid show anyway) and then doesnt seem to really make an educated conclusion on the judgment.

he's real playful and then gets upset at the littlest things. real moody
i remember one ep where he kept joking with the people about going to amsterdam to smoke, and when the plaintiff was going into the case and made a joke about smoking the judge got upset. uhh what? is someone pms'ing?

judge judy is mean, but she is not too into background info unless it pertains to the case. judge milian hardly listens to background information. judge alex listens to some background info and spends a lot of time listening to the case.

Yeah, sometimes Mathis can be a bit of an ass sometimes or a jerk. I agree, he does sometimes get moody but Judge Judy is wayyyyyyyyyyy worse and I love her. Whenever someone says they couldn't get whatever, she ALWAYS says: "That's your problem!! Ah YOURS!" LOL!

"I am the ultimate badass, you do not wanna `*beep*` wit me!"- Hudson in Aliens.

reply

Let me ring in :-) I saw an episode once : woman was suing a guy (don't recall details) ...she won, something to do with "guy owning her money." Judge Mathis says to the defendant the guy, "you just mad at her because she wouldn't let you "smell it."

After that I was too through!

Go Judge Judy. she might be mean, but she does not joke around like he does.

reply

TV court/judge shows are a guilty pleasure of mine, but I find Mathis unwatchable. I can remember a time or two when he would let the scumbags, male and female, have it, but now he just sits there laughing and permitting the litigants to argue with each other in the courtroom, reducing his show to nothing but Jerry-Springer-lite. Maybe that gets ratings from the rabble, but not from me.

with all his schooling im more educated than mathis and you

Can't really stand him much either. He is hypocritical when it comes to humor, meaning only he can teel the jokes. Plus it looks like cases are picked to come out with the lowest type of sensationalistic melodrama possible. He's also too judgemental, even being a judge, and often jumps to a conclusion about someone.
