When he gets defensive...

I've noticed that when someone quotes the law, he usually gets defensive. Even if the person is bringing it up as support for their case and not even arguing with him, he does it often. I could understand if they were challenging his knowledge, but not when it's mentioned in passing. I wonder if he's defensive due to his background or maybe he's sensitive about no longer being a real judge.
