Robert Carlyle as a hitler...

Yes, he most certainly looks like hitler, in the matter of fact, if they were to put together, you could not see the difference. Seriously he is a good actor but he looks more like anything but hitler, come on, whos idea was to cast him...

Not a good choice by director.

Carlyle was great in comedy roles, Full Monty and 51th state, but his Hitler was awful..
Shallow, stiff as Pinocchio, almost cartoon character. Not beleivable.

Horrible miscast.

If you want to watch realistic portrayal of Hitler, watch Downfall and Bruno Ganz.

Hitler is viewed as a career destroying role to take on by most actors, and it takes a very brave man to do it (is it any coincidence that Carlyles movie career has stagnated since this?)

I think he was great as the young Hitler. He did a great job with a weak script.

I agree and laughed out loud at your opening post

It was a great two parter but the only accurate thing about Carlyle portraying Hitler realistically was the 'tash and the fact he spat a lot. But then he spat a lot in 28 Weeks Later. In fact in the latter movie he was slobbering all over his screen wife whilst she lay there in quarantine. It put me off my popcorn.

"Has anyone seen my wife?" - Columbo

I thought he was excellent.
Manic stare, just like his part. Slight figure.
And he presented Hitler's low level of intelligence very well.
