Three unanswered questions...

Hi. First of all, does anyone know if the DVD commentary is available online anywhere? I haven't been able to locate it.

Secondly, we aren't really told in the film how Aaron manages to 'escape' from the treatment facility. Has anyone read the novelization by T. Fabris (published by Alyson Publications)? - this might offer an explanation. Any other theories?

Thirdly, what are Aaron's words in the 'love scene' after Christian says "You've got a pocket watch"? Various subtitles offer different renditions, but none of them seem satisfactory.

Free drink to whoever can answer my queries!!

One reason I bought the DVD was to enjoy the DVD extras, such as the commentary. The other is that I want to support the films I enjoy. Have you found DVD commentary on line? Seems strange that you would, because I assume they produce those extras to help sell the DVDs.

The facility where Elder Davis was sent by his parents appeared to have minimal security. In one scene the guard was asleep. Theoretically, leaving from that place wouldn't have been too difficult. Elder Davis was guilty of no crime; did you expect he should be locked up like a criminal with no way out?

In the pocket watch scene in Salt Lake City, Elder Davis explains the watch belonged to his great-grandfather and had been passed down. Then he mentioned that Christian hadn't come there for a genealogy lesson. The point of that scene was to point to the pocket watch being left behind. Later, the watch comes up again in a key scene where Sister Davis learns a lesson.

Many thanks for your reply, blindvias-071407.

I am not sure how such detention facilities work; I just assumed that:
a) Aaron would have left almost immediately if there had been minimum security, seeing as he was guilty of no crime (rather than stay there being subjected to such demeaning chores as scrubbing the bathroom floor with a toothbrush!) or
b) he had been placed there by the Mormon stake (his father was stake president) and would have had to wait until the community thought he had been 'cured' and was ready to leave (so more of a moral, ethical confinement)
I certainly did not expect him to be locked up like a criminal; I thought he would have just been taken to hospital, and then allowed to get on with his life, presumably not at home since his parents had practically disowned him.

I understand perfectly the pocket-watch scene; I just wanted to know exactly what Aaron says when Christian exclaims "You've got a pocket-watch." His words are almost unintelligible here.

Like you, I have seen this film many times; I think it is wonderful. I'm a bit curious as to why you only rated it 8 while you're not averse to giving ratings of 10.

The character of Aaron is over eighteen, and therefore an adult. As an adult, he can't be held against his will.
