whats up with everybody in miike movies being in this movie. are him and the director friends?

Miike himself and Tadanobu Asano are in this, but I didn't recongize anyone else typically Miike in this - who do you mean?

You are right, I totally forgot that Riki Takeuchi was in it. So yes, what with that and Miike himself, I'd say that the director is at least a fan of Miike. Are they friends then? I never managed to find much information on Pen-Ek Ratanaruang.
If you know some website with good info, please let me know!

if you watch the interview with pen-ek on the special features he says him, doyle, miike, and asano have been to so many film festivles together and have always talked about doing a film together so they did and we got the beautiful last life in the universe

Sakichi Sato (writer of Ichi, Gozu and others) and Yoji Tanaka (regular Miike player) play the other yakuza. Chris Doyle also played the bad guy (!) in miikes Andromedia.
