Was there a scene of Nid and Noi's parents?

There was a scene in which Noi and Kenji are talking about where they've come from IIRC, right before the national anthem plays. There is a scene that shows two adults standing in front of Noi's house, with someone (the young sisters?) holding a sign, and what appears to be an officer or someone in uniform. What was that scene about? When I saw it the first time, I thought maybe their parents were killed...?
