Was Kristine's school really closed?

Or was Gianni trying to protect Paolo by saying it was?

The boy was aprehensive of such a meeting; --even though he says "we'll come back tomorrow."

The boy gives us several hints, before the trip to Norway, that he knows his 'dream' girl is nothing more that that- just a 'dream.' He's 15 and, though childlike in many ways, he's adult enough to know that his pen-pal, Kristine, should probably just stay as as a 'dream' girl because of his handicaps, and his first-hand knowledge of how other 'non-challenged' kids see him.

Notice the way the little German boy in the playground looks at Paolo....
....and then runs back, into the treadwheel, to play....

Wordlessly, when they look upon one another,
each knows what the other is (and isn't) capable of doing on their own.

Such nuanced glances silently speak volumes.

I figured as much, but wanted someone else's perspective. Thank you for your nice reply.

Indeed, it was a lovely reply -- thanks from me as well!

Ever the pedant, Cinema Universe, I believe you were referring to the little Norwegian boy and, yes, some very fine screen time there.

Thanks again!

If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.

No, Cinema Universe was referring, as he/she stated, to the German boy in the playground in Berlin. This scene took place before the trip to Norway.
