Wonderful film.
Gianni (Kim Rossi Stuart) attempts to form a relationship with his handicapped son, Paolo (Andrea Rossi), now 15, whom he is meeting for the first time.
This Academy Award nominated film is moving and true. It is not interested in these two people before, or after, the here and now; we don’t know why Gianni is bothering to get involved in his son’s life for the first time (aside from his ex-wife’s passing), and we don’t quite enter RAIN MAN territory in the end, either. It’s just these two people for a while, learning to understand one another, finding mutual ground.
I won’t soon forget the moment father asks son to live with him, or the embrace that follows. Simple beauty.
